Welcome To A Movement of Positive Education!

Thrive is a nonprofit educational organisation working to provide preventive, positive and promotive mental health education in low-income schools in Chennai.

Our Beliefs

We are working towards a world where every child and adult can thrive in an ever-changing volatile environment. Our mission is to create learning spaces where children and adults can pursue their well-being through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Vulnerable children attending low resourced schools are at high risk for staying locked in poverty owing to exposure to multiple psychosocial risks and lack of supportive educational services to face them and overcome them. We do what we do to provide access to mental health care because it is a right, not a privilege.

Our Approach

WHOLE SCHOOL WELL-BEING THROUGH SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Classes on SEL for middle school children

Individual and group counselling for targetted challenges

Teacher well-being programme

Parent engagement

Drafting, implementing and monitoring child-centric school policies

Our Impact

85% of all enrolled students showed observable and marked improvement in critical life skills such as communication, taking initiatives, solving problems, resolving conflicts and engaging with larger social issues and working on their biases

Testimonials

What Schools Say

“SEL came into my classroom last year, when my students were in the 7th grade and frankly, I didn’t know how it would pan out … I knew it was to do with emotions, building emotional vocabulary…. But as the days went by, I saw changes in the children, where they were able to articulate their feelings.. the class kind of transformed from a class of monkeys who used to tease each other and use violence to a class who could actually sit down and talk about their emotions and were willing to open up and empathise with the other person…they could reason out why they reacted the way they did or why others reacted the way they did and they learned to separate the emotion from the person and solve problems..”

– Ms. N.S, Grade VIII Teacher in a low-income school

If I go to another school, I want SEL to come there.

Pranav, Grade VII

We learnt to talk and solve problems and get the solutions from US!

Akshaya, Grade VII

I loved the classes and my favourite topic was that on emotions as I felt it was very useful and can be used to identify and relate to other people. the activity where we shared personal experiences made me realise how one can be free of worries if they share and thus feel happy.
